From showing up too late to showing up too early. From dressing up too fancy to dressing like a slob. Some guys even make a bunch of different mistakes all at once! So here's my list of ten bad mistakes that many many men make, and what you should do instead:
1) Spending a lot of money on a first or second date
This is mistake I learned about from dating coach Jake Vandenhoff. See I never thought it was a problem to spend too MUCH money on a date with a girl. I thought it was only wrong not to spend enough money. But as it turns out spending too much money might actually be even worse!
2) Trying to "go dutch"
Going dutch is a terrible idea. I know, I know, in number one I told you not to spend too much and now I'm telling you not to be cheap... But here's the thing, you are the man, so you've got to pay the tab. Just don't go nuts taking girls you don't know to the finest steakhouses before you know them at all unless you are a millionaire. Just take her to a moderately priced restaurant.
3) Dressing like somebodies dad
Even if you are a dad, you can't wear dad jean and old ugly Bill Cosby sweaters . Just be casual, wear some jeans and buttondown, or if you are under 30 just wear a cool t-shirt.
4) Not saying anything
When you are out with a girl you must talk to her. if you can't think of anything to say just talk about her and make observations about her.
5) Acting too happy
acting happy seems like it would be a good idea, but really it can make you appear like a loser who has never been on a date before. I'd say act just kind of happy.
6) Not complimenting her at all
If you are going out with a classy girl, then she has no doubt put some effort into her appearance for the evening, so tell her she looks good!
7) Being too stiff
This goes along with not saying anything. These are actually probably the top two mistakes guys make on dates. You've got to talk PLUS you've got to keep things loose and easy. Don't worry about saying the wrong thing or looking foolish, you've got to let your hair down.
8) Not flirting
If you want to be "more than friend with your date you need to let her know you are interested, by... hello ever heard of flirting?
9) Not setting up date #2
Date number 1 is the perfect time to set up date number two. Here's how you do it: when you are talking to her about something you both like to do, tell her you want to do it with her and set a date!
10) Not making a move
Another big one... for lord's sake, if your date is smiling at you a lot or even just a little make your move already!
